An Independent Society Built Around Classic Menswear

Sartorial Society Austria was created to provide a thoughtful, non-commercial space for people interested in tailoring, craftsmanship, clothing history and personal style.

Why we exist

Beyond Products. Around People, Craft and Conversation.

Menswear communities are often fragmented — scattered across brands, forums and social media. The Society creates an independent physical and intellectual home for the interest itself.

Our focus is participation, education and connection: rooms where a collector, a first-time customer and a cutter can sit at the same table.

The Society is not organised to sell clothing or to promote a single commercial interest.

The Society does not exist to promote any single brand or commercial agenda.

Inclusive

Knowledge, age, gender, profession and wardrobe size do not determine belonging. Membership is open to everyone who shares the interest.

Respectful of Craft

We value workmanship, history and the people behind the garments.

Open to Evolution

Classic menswear is a living culture, not a fixed costume.

How the Society Is Run

Sartorial Society Austria is a registered association. Contributions are reinvested into events, educational programming, community initiatives and the operation of the Society.

No profits are distributed to founders or members. Partnerships are curated and transparently disclosed.

Founder

A collector of vintage Austrian tailoring, Jonas founded the Society after realising the best menswear conversations were happening in private. His first commission — a grey flannel suit at twenty-four — never left his rotation.

Elena Marchetti

Elena Marchetti

Programme Chair

Elena spent a decade producing cultural programming for museums before turning to menswear. She curates the Society’s conversations and believes a good talk should feel like a good dinner.

Tomas Weber

Tomas Weber

Committee · Craft Liaison

A pattern cutter by training, Tomas connects the Society with the workshops, mills and makers behind the garments. He owns more shoe trees than shoes, and defends this.

The founders currently serve as the association’s board. Board roles are defined in the statutes and may be introduced separately as the Society grows.

What we are not

Sartorial Society Austria is not a fashion label, a sales platform, a networking club built around status, or a space reserved only for experts.

Membership Is Participation, Not Status

Members help shape a community grounded in generosity, curiosity and a serious appreciation for classic menswear. Membership is by invitation and recommendation.

There is no open application. Membership grows through the community itself — by attendance, acquaintance and recommendation.

Membership types

Three ways of belonging, each defined in the statutes.

Full membership carries the annual contribution of €50 and includes:

— Priority access to all gatherings
— Invitations to member-only events
— Workshops and conversations
— The private member community
— Opportunities to host or contribute
— Voting rights per the statutes

Supporting members sustain the Society’s work without full participation rights. Contributions are determined individually in conversation with the board. A quiet way to keep the culture alive.

Sponsoring membership is open to companies, institutions and individuals who wish to support the Society’s programming in a larger way. Rights and responsibilities — including recognition, event involvement and partner presence — are defined together with the board.

Sponsorship arrangements are discussed individually and must preserve the Society’s independence. Contact the Society to begin the conversation.

A short form — under five minutes. The Society will invite you to an upcoming gathering to get acquainted.

Questions, answered

Express your interest, attend a gathering to get to know the community, and receive a recommendation from an existing or founding member. Membership is confirmed in accordance with the statutes.

Any existing or founding member may recommend a prospective member after meeting them — usually at a gathering. The recommendation goes to the board, which confirms membership per the statutes.

Full membership is €50 per year. Supporting and sponsoring contributions are agreed individually.

Priority access to gatherings, member-only events, workshops and conversations, the private member community, and the opportunity to host or contribute.

Some events carry a contribution to cover venue, catering or materials — always stated on the event page. Many member gatherings are free.

No. Wear whatever you would like to talk about. Tailoring is welcome; it is never required. Individual events may offer dress guidance.

Contact the Society. Sponsorship arrangements — including rights, responsibilities and recognition — are discussed individually with the board.

No. Many members are at the very beginning of building a wardrobe. Interest matters far more than ownership.

Yes — enthusiastically. The Society exists precisely to make the craft approachable. Expertise is not required; curiosity is.

No. Many gatherings are open to the public. Members receive priority access and invitations to member-only evenings.

Usually, yes. Each event states its guest policy; most allow one guest per confirmed attendee.

Contributions are reinvested into events, educational programming, venues, documentation and community administration. No profits are distributed.
